Why do things float?
Things float because of displacement NOT density.
Do you know anything about floating?
Because I do.
Things float because of density right? NO! Density = mass/volume. Mass measures how much stuff is there. Volume is how much stuff that takes up. Which is where displacement comes in.
Displacement? Do you know what it means? Because I do. Displacement means when you have a glass full of water and you drop a walnut and it the water will move around the walnut and the water rise when the water goes around the walnut.
Things float when they are buoyant or less dense than liquid in which they are sitting. But this doesn't mean the object has to be lighter than the liquid.
Now do you know a bit about floating I hope you learn’t a little something.
